Cambuslang Rangers 7-0 Fochabers

Citylink Scottish Cup 2nd Round

Saturday 1st November

at Somervell Park

Cambuslang Rangers eased into the 3rd of the Scottish Cup on Saturday. It was a resounding 7-0 victory over North Region Side Fochabers with the goals coming from a Nikki Miller Hatrick and brace from Sammy Sweeney and 1 a piece from Chris Queen and Carlo Santi.

In the one sided affair Lang keeper Jon Connolly had not 1 save to make in the match, by far his easiest 90 minutes since joining the Lang.

The home side made a couple of changes from their last line up. The inform Colin Irvine was ruled out through injury as was Cornwell. Ross Donaldson had to make do with a place on the bench as Cambuslang went with Miller and Ogilvie up front.

BISHOP CLOSES DOWN RARE ATTACK

SWEENEY (8) GRABBED A BRACE

The writing was on the wall as early as the 2nd minute as Cambuslang pressed looking for the opening goal. Bishop met a cross into the box but his header was blocked on the line but Miller was on hand to fire home from close range. Cambuslang almost doubled that lead a minute later and Bishop was involved again. This time his powerful header came back off the post before being cleared by the jittery defence. Cambuslang went 2 up on 14 minutes.

Miller turned provider this time. His surging run into the box created space for the cross and he rolled the ball into the path of Chris Queen who thundered the ball into the roof of the net. Miller was involved again but this time his shot was well saved by the visiting keeper.

Cambuslang thought they had scored a 3rd on the stroke of half time but Ogilvie's header was ruled out for climbing.

H-T 2-0

It was pretty much the same story in the 2nd half as Cambuslang dominated possession form start to finish. Fochabers very rarely threatened the Lang back line and Connolly was a virtual spectator during the match.

Cambuslang yet again struck the woodwork, Sweeney with a fine run and shot could only watch in agony as it bounced off the crossbar and away. A great effort from the Lang midfielder. Sweeney got in on the scoring action on 62 minutes. Queen’s corner was nodded home at the near post for Cambuslang's 3rd of the afternoon. The home side replaced Queen and Ogilvie on 63 minutes. Carlo Santi and Jamie Dick were introduced to the action.

This was soon followed by Lang’s final change and Scott Marshall was brought on for Kenna in the middle of the park. Cambuslang increased their lead on 70 minutes. Renwick’s deep corner was missed by everyone except Sweeney who nodded home at the back post. The Langs 5th came from the head of Miller who was on hand to nod Renwicks cross pas the despairing dive on Munro in the Fochabers goal.

MILLER BAGGED A HAT TRICK

LYNCH COMES IN FOR INJURED IRVINE

A mistake by Langs Garry Lynch allowed Fochabers in for their first shot at goal on 80 minutes, but McLaughlin pulled his effort wide of the target. On 83 minutes Lang grabbed a 6th. Millers cross came to Santi but the chance looked to have gone after he miss controlled the ball but he somehow recovered to force the ball home.

The rout was complete on 89 minutes. Another ball into the box wasn't dealt with by the Fochabers defenders and this allowed Miller in and he slotted for his well deserved hat trick.

So a great day for Lang but a miserable journey home for the North Region Side who enjoyed the day out.

The draw for the 3rd Round takes place next Sunday at the Social Club of Whitburn.

With Cambuslang's scheduled game via Yoker this week now cancelled, due to them having a Scottish Cup replay, Cambuslang now have No Game on the 8th November.
