Vale of Clyde 0-4 Cambuslang Rangers
Sectional League Cup
Wednesday 2nd August 2006
at Fullarton Park
Cambuslang Rangers made a winning start to the Sectional League
Cup with a relatively comfortable 4-0 win over Super League side Vale of Clyde.
A double from last season’s top scorer Chris Faulds sees him only 4 short of
his whole total of 6 last season. A single each from Carson and Patrick
completed the rout.
It was a new look for both sides as
Lang and Vale go through a sort of transition period with the Super League New
Boys now under new management and a few of their promotion winning side having
moved on.
It was the visitors that seemed to have settled in the quicker and
almost opened the scoring after only 5 minutes. Robertson shot on the turn
going inches wide of the goal.
Vale should have scored on 13 minutes when a deep cross to the
back post was not cut out by the Lang defence allowing Vale striker a free
header but he put the effort into the side net.
Cambuslang made the breakthrough on 27 minutes courtesy of a
penalty kick. Faulds played a nice pass into the path of Carson but he was barged
off the ball by the Vale defender earning him a yellow card. The ref awarded
the spot kick that was taken by Chris Faulds. The Lang striker despatched the
ball past the despairing dive of the Vale keeper.
The visitors doubled that lead only a minute later when Carson was
on hand to bundle the ball home after a fine Chris Faulds shot came off one
post before rolling along the line and striking the other post and Carson
steamed in to slide it over the line.
Everything seemed to be going the way of the Lang and on 34
minutes they were awarded another spot kick for hand ball in the box but this
time Faulds effort came back off the post. A minute later and Faulds earned a
yellow card for not retreating quickly at a Vale free kick.
Vale rare attempt at goal came on 38 minutes when Garfield skipped
past a few tackles but pulled his shot well wide.
Just before the break Cambuslang Rangers made it 3. Faulds was on
hand to score his second of the game with a fine finish from a fine pass from
Patrick.
H-T 0-3
The home side made 2 changes at the start of the second and these
changes seemed to give the Vale a lift as they came more and more into the
game. Cambuslang had a couple of chances to increase their lead. Patrick should
have scored when he found himself in acres of space at the back but the keeper
pulled off a decent save.
Cambuslang made 2 changes when Robertson and Faulds made way for
Trialist 1 and Trialist 2. It was all of 75 minutes before the Cambuslang
keeper was forced to make his first save and the trialist keeper was down quick
to turn the Vales strikers shot round the post.
Cambuslang then made their third and final change of the game when
O'Neil came on for the impressive Carson.
Vale sub was then booked for a blatant kick at Lang trialist 2 but
lucky to escape with just the yellow.
Cambuslang scored their fourth of the game with a well-worked move
involving Patrick and Trialist 2. Patrick played the ball out to Trialist 2 who
in return laid the ball into Patrick's path and he duly despatched it past the
Vale keeper to round off a good night for Scott Archers side.
