Central Region 1st Division
At Newlandsfield
Cambuslang Rangers slumped to defeat against promotion hopefuls
This match took place at the home of Pollok F.C. as
But having said that Cambuslang rode their luck on quite a few
occasions but Fusari in the Lang goal wasn't as busy as you would expect. Some
really poor finishing from the "home" side almost cost them dearly,
and had to rely on a late winner, with 10 minutes remaining to seal the points.
Cambuslang went with a new back line after Brian Martin was ruled
out due to work commitments which meant an unusual role of full back for Andy
Bannerman. With Faulds, Noble and Donnelly having all but left the club,
Cambuslang squad was looking a bit on the thin side and coupled with the
suspension of Doyle left them down to the bare minimum. The defeat also sees
Cambuslang hovering over the relegation spots, and if/when they lose the 3
points for fielding an ineligible player v Vale of Leven could even see
Cambuslang drop to as low as 2nd from bottom. Lang also gave new boy Leon
Kondol his legal Debut.

McCracken Returned To The Side |
The writing was on the wall pretty early for Cambuslang as
Clydebank to hold of the game. Their first chance was presented after a rare
mistake from keeper Fusari, his poor kick out fell to Kenna but he was unable
to take full advantage and his poor effort went wide.
Clydebank then had a great chance to open the scoring when Forbes
sprung the offside trap but his effort came back of the post, justice seemed to
be served as at least 3 Bankies players were in an offside position when the
ball was played.
Cambuslang were restricted to shots from distance, Patrick pulled
his just wide of the target but never really troubled Chalmers in Bankies goal.
On 20 minutes Graham McCracken had a free kick fly just wide of target.
Cambuslang yet again failing to work the keeper. Forbes for the home side
should have scored on 22 minutes but he somehow shot wide from 10 yards out. On
30 minutes Clydebank had another chance to open the scoring but once again they
failed to trouble the Lang keeper as another effort went wide of goal. Fusari's
first real save of the game came a minute later, Maxwell found himself 1 on 1
but the Lang goalie stood up well and saved the effort. Lang new boy Kondol
picked up a silly booking for throwing the ball away. To end the half Bankies
missed yet another chance to open the scoring, this time Fisher the sinner
firing wide from 10 yards.

The first notable action of the second half came when Ex-Lang
player Stewart Taylor was yellow carded for a crude challenge on McCracken. He
was quickly followed in the ref's book by Forbes and the Bankies man day just
got worse as he was substituted a minute later to be replaced with Kelly.
Clydebank continued in the second half where they left off in the
first and that was creating many good chances but failing to trouble Fusari in
the Lang goal. Cambuslang seemed quite happy to sit in and try and hit Bankies
on the break. The sub, Kelly, was next up to waste a great chance to
score right after coming on but his effort was poor and the Lang defence
cleared. Clydebank then picked up another booking this time Kenna was very late
on Reid. Cambuslang then got a rare sniff at goal and Patrick seen his shot
easily saved by Chalmers. Fusari kept Cambuslang level with a stunning
double save. Firstly a blistering drive from Fisher was superbly parried
but if fell to the feet of Kenna but Fusari was quick to his feet and threw
himself in front of the Bankies mans shot to turn the ball round the post.
Cambuslang then made a double change, introducing Nolan and Keane
into the action with McCracken and Bannerman making way. The change did little
to stem the flow towards the Lang goal but the defence kept the Bankies men at
bay for another little while. Cambuslang then introduced Wyatt at the expense
of Patrick. Wyatt impact was immediate but for the wrong reasons as he was cautioned
for a poor challenge on Taylor. Cambuslang were still hanging in there and had
Keane to thank as he headed a Bankies effort of the line.

Reid Goes Close With A Late Header |
Reid Has A Shot |
The goal eventually arrived for the home side with 9 minutes
remaining. Substitute trialist collected the ball out wide right and he made
his way to the bye line before delivering the perfect cross for Maxwell who was
totally unmarked at the back post and his downward header beat Fusari. It was
no more than the home side deserved.
Cambuslang had a great chance to snatch a point at the end
when Reid got on the end of a cross but his effort went agonisingly wide.
Lang's day got worse when new boy Kondol went down injured and had to be helped
from the field. Bankies moved to the top of the table with these 3 points.
