Cambuslang Rangers 3-1 Glencairn
Abercorn 1st Division
Wednseday 5th May 2003
at Somervell Park
A downpour before the game made the surface
very tricky for both sides as Cambuslang tried to keep up their promotion and
championship bid alive. Cambuslang opened the scoring in the 12 minute when
McCarroll played Brown through on goal, the Lang man held off a few challenges
before slipping the ball pas the Glens keeper. The visitors hit back against
the run of play and snatched an equaliser after Rowan failed to collect what
seemed a tame ball across the face of goal. But McLaughlin fired home. Lang
regained the lead through top scorer Brown who scored his second of the match,
when Glens trailist keeper spilled the ball into Brown's path and he blasted
the easy chance home from 4 yards. The game was wrapped up on the 30 minute
mark when McCarroll fired home a 25 yard free kick giving the keeper no chance.
The second half was pretty drab with neither
side showing any real urgency. Both side had half chances but it was Cambuslang
who ran out comfortable winners in the end and keep them on course for the
championship, their first since 1991.
