Cambuslang Rangers 7-0 Glasgow
Perthshire
Abercorn 1st Division
Saturday 6th March
at Somervell Park
Cambuslang Rangers remained top of the table after smashing seven
past bottom of the table Glasgow Perthshire at the weekend. Manager Andy
Cunningham rung the changes as he looked for an improved performance than
the one served up the previous match. the home side were minus defender Gary
McGregor due to holiday. There was also an impressive showing from re-signed
Alan Paterson who chipped in with a hat- trick of goals.
It was a slow and sluggish start from the home side and indeed it
was the visitors who were first to threaten. Cassidy found time and space to
get his shot away but Lang keeper Rowan saved well diving to his left. The Lang
opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Burns slipped the ball through to Brown
who thunderous shot was too powerful for the keeper, who got a hand to it but the
power carried it over the line. Within a minute of the restart it was 2. Brown
on hand yet a gain this time to knock Galloway's cross home from close range.
On the half hour mark the home side were awarded a penalty after skipper Billy
Holmes was barged off the ball inside the box, Carmichael stepped up and he
slotted past the keeper. On 32 minutes things went from bad to worse for the
visitors after Hewitt picked up his second caution of the game and was red
carded. They then found themselves down to 9 men when Cahoon was shown a
straight red card for an elbow on Galloway. On 35 minutes Cambuslang scored
their 4th of the game. Burns short corner to Paterson who took a touch before
firing into the far corner of the net. 3 minutes later and it was 5. defender
Brian Martin getting in on the action with the goal of the game. As the ball
broke to the big defender at the edge of the box his volley flew into the top
corner giving the keeper no chance. Just before the break and Perthshire then
had their manager ordered from the dug out after comments to the referee.
H-T 4-0
Cambuslang clearly took their foot off the gas in the second half
as they strolled through the second 45 minutes. Perthshire made 2 changes at
the start of the half when the replaced Dolan and Cassidy with Bell and
Falconer in an attempt of damage limitation, which to an extent did work.
Cambuslang made a couple of changes early in the half too when Brown and Holmes
were replaced by Love and McCrae. On the hour mark and Cambuslang scored their
6th through Paterson, he was on hand to slot home after Martins initial effort
was blocked. Paterson almost grabbed his third of the game when he sneaked in
at the back post but his effort rattled the post before being cleared. Coulter
was then replaced by Stoddart, making a rare appearance. The visitors should
have got a goal back after they broke up field, but yet again Rowan in the Lang
goal was on hand to save. Cambuslang completed the rout on 83 minutes when
McCrae cut the ball back tp Paterson who coolly lobbed the bal over everyone
into the far corner of the net for his hat-trick.
