Lanark Utd 0-0 Cambuslang Rangers

Cambuslang
Rangers quest for a top 6 finish took yet another dent when they could only
manage a 0-0 draw with bottom side Lanark United at the weekend. This was a
disappointing result for both sides as Lanark fight to beat the drop and
Cambuslang look to secure enough points to finish in the top six for a spot in
next seasons Super League.
Cambuslang
were almost at full strength with only Damian Devanney missing through injury.
Gary McGregor was back after a rib injury.
Cambuslang
started the brighter of the 2 teams and almost took the lead after only 5
minutes. Stuart Gauley collected Kavanagh's pass but his shot was well saved by
the Lanark keeper who turned it round the post, from the resulting corner Doak
went close with a header, which the keeper saved. A mistake by Lanark allowed
Holmes time to turn and shot but he sent his drive narrowly wide of the target.
Cambuslang's McGregor was the first player into the referee's note book for a
late challenge on the Lanark attacker. Cambuslang had strong appeals for a
penalty waived away by the referee. Holmes was clearly taken from behind but
the referee was having none of it and waived play on, much to the dismay of
both fans and players. Cambuslang were forced into a change on 25 minutes when
Doak failed to recover from an earlier knock, Watson took his place for a rare
appearance.
Cambuslang
almost opened the scoring on 32 minutes but Gauley saw his effort superbly
turned round the post by the Lanark keeper. At the end of the half Cambuslang
should have opened the scoring, an almighty goalmouth scramble saw Holmes and
Gauley both have efforts scrambled clear. Lanark too, had a chance to open the
scoring in the dieing minutes of the first half but a well-timed header by
Watson cleared the danger with two Lanark players waiting in the box. Then
moments later Watson and Wardlaw combined to prevent the home side taking the
lead. The Lanark player was in on goal with only Wardlaw to beat but a
fine saving tackle by Watson gave Wardlaw time to gather the ball and prevent
what looked like a goal scoring opportunity.

H-T 0-0

The
second half started with the home side on the attack and Nelson fired over from
15 yards. Lang's Balmain then saw his effort scrambled away for a corner.
Cambuslang then had Paterson booked for dissent. Lang's Holmes blew another
great chance to open the scoring; he hit his shot tamely into the keepers arms.
Cambuslang then replaced Dunn with Gilhaney. The home side then forced Wardlaw
into another fine save from the head of Nelson. Cambuslang's Balmain fired in a
shot that took a slight deflection on it's way to goal but the keeper got down
well to deal with it. Jamie Earlie then replaced Billy Holmes. Cambuslang then
went close with a header from sub Watson that narrowly missed the back post.
The
game petered out with the result not any good for either side.
