St Roch’s 2-2 Cambuslang Rangers

(Lang Win 4-2 on Pens)

Central League Cup 2nd Round

Monday 7th May 2007

Cambuslang Rangers progressed to the quarter final stages of the central league cup on Monday night courtesy of a 4-2 penalty shoot out win over St Roch's. The game went to spot kicks after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The game was a bit of a turbulent one for Lang's keeper as he gifted the home side both goals after poor play on his part, but he more than made up for them by saving 2 kicks in the shoot out, but the evening just got worse for the number 1 when he was red carded after the final kick had been taken for gesturing to the crowd behind the goal that had been giving him stick the whole game.

Cambuslang had a great chance to open the scoring when Taylor's corner was met by McGowan but the header was cleared off the line. The home side then were presented with a chance after a wayward pass by Taylor allowed Smith a chance but it was saved by Fraser. % minutes later Wyatt fired a shot inches wide of the post. The first booking came when Hughes was penalised for a later trip.

Cambuslang opened the scoring just before the interval, Carson having a shot that was deflected and looped over the head of the Roch's keeper and into the net.

Ogilvy, Still Looking For That First Goal

5 minutes into the second half Cambuslang should have doubled their lead, Ogilvy found space but he fired over from 12 yards. On the hour mark the home side drew level. Lang keeper Fraser came for a cross into the box but only succeeded in punching it into his own net under very little pressure. Cambuslang took centre and ran up the park and re took the lead within a minute. Ogilvy putting in the pass that Carson coming in at the back post fired high into the roof of the net. Next into the ref's book went Taylor who was replaced soon after by Doyle.

Cambuslang had 1 foot in the next round when Fraser in Lang's goal had another mad moment when he fluffed another punch and again Lang were punished as Smith slotted home from close range.

The ref blew the final whistle a minute later and the game went to spot kicks.

Cambuslang went first and Coyle scored then Fraser made his first spot save from Smith.

Wyatt was next up for Lang and his effort was saved. St Roch's then drew level.

Hughes, McGowan both scored and then Fraser made another crucial save leaving Farmer with the chance to book Lang spot in the next round and he calmly slotted home sending the keeper the wrong way.

Fraser then gestured to the crowd that had been on his back all game and was then shown a red card. His celebration was no more than the Roch's number 9 had shown twice, once with the last minute equaliser and 2nd when he notched his spot kick.

Cambuslang now take on Cumbernauld United (date TBC) in the Quarter Finals
