Cambuslang Rangers 1-2 Neilston Juniors
Scottish Junior Cup 1st
Round Replay
At
It was disappointment all round
There was also bad news when Kerr Gray was stretchered from the
field with a now confirmed broken ankle. The big defender had just returned to
the side after a lengthy lay off. He seemed to catch his studs in the turf
and fell awkwardly resulting in the horrendous injury that will keep him
sideline for a few months.
Cambuslang were full of confidence going into the game on the back
of last weeks fine 0-0 draw away, but they were unable to produce that kind of
performance again.
Cambuslang went with the same line up that had earned the replay. Andrew Noble was unavailable due to flu and Brian Martin was suspended. Chris Doyle was available again but had to make do with a place on the bench.

McGowan In A Tangle |
Neilston started the game brightly and after only 2 minutes Fusari
in the Lang goal was happy to see a shot whistle over the bar. It took Cambuslang
a wee bit of time to get into this game and their first effort came from the
boot of McCracken, he fired inches over with the 20-yard strike.
On 32 minutes Cambuslang were forced into a change when Kerr Gray
had to be stretchered off after and awkward fall that resulted in ligament
damage and also a broken ankle. Chris Doyle taking his place.
The first yellow card of the game came on 44 minutes Scobie the
recipient for persistent fouling.

Doyle Came On For Injured Kerr Gray |
McGowan In The Thick Of It |
Neilston had a better second half and began to create chances. On
51 minutes the visitors opened the scoring. After a mad strammash in the box and
even an amazing goal line block by McGowan. Neilston still managed to force the
ball over the line after Cambuslang failed to clear the danger on a couple of
occasions. Cambuslang had Patrick booked minutes later for speaking out of
turn.
Cambuslang then introduced Bannerman and Reid made way. Faulds
found himself on the end of some heavy challenges and this one resulted in a
booking for Whiteford.

Faulds Gets Lang’s Consolation From
The Spot |
Neilston were finding it easier to get through the Lang back line
and had to rely on keeper Fusari for keeping them in the tie. Neilston all but
finished off Cambuslang with a stunning strike. Smith fired into the top corner
from 25 yards giving Lang keeper Fusari no chance. Cambuslang then
replaced Robertson with Wyatt.
Cambuslang went close when Bannermans excellent volley was headed
off the line. Then Wyatt forced the Neilston keeper into a fine stop.
Cambuslang then picked up another booking when Wyatt was cautioned after a
clash with the keeper, he clearly played the ball but the ref saw in
differently and yellow carded the Lang striker.
Cambuslang grabbed, what turned out to be no more than a
consolation goal. Chris Faulds upended in the box resulting in a spot kick,
which the striker took and converted himself.
