Cambuslang Rangers 2-1
Dunipace
Abercorn 1st
Division
Saturday 10th

at Somervell
Park
Cambuslang Rangers kicked off the new year
with 3 points after a narrow win over Dunipace at Somervell Park.
The home side went into the game minus both
Iain Stoddart and Brian Martin who were both suspended following the ' WAR ' at
Tollcross in the match against Vale of Clyde...
It was midway through the first half before
anything of any note happened and that was an Alan McCrae shot that rattled the
up right. Despite the pressure from the home side it was the visitors who took
a shock lead. A rare venture up field saw Dunipace catch Cambuslang on the
break. McCallum cut the ball back to McMillan who slotted past Rowan in the
Lang goal.
Cambuslang drew level 4 minutes later when
Ferguson was on hand to knock home. He got on the end of a Willie Galloway
cross and the Pace keeper left no chance. The game had it's best spell in the
final 5 minutes of the first half with both teams having chances to score, Cambuslang
relying on Rowan to keep the Pace attack at bay...
The goal of the game came on 41 minutes when Burn's sent
McCarroll down the left and the Lang man sent over a delightful cross for Brown
who neatly headed past the Pace keeper. In the closing moments of the half
Cambuslang had chances to wrap up the points but some heroic goal keeping kept
the Lang attack force at bay... McCarroll was the man to test the keeper on a
couple of occasions but was thwarted each time. An 18 yard drive looked a goal
all the way until the timely intervention from the man between the sticks. Then
a cracking drive was superbly saved again McCarroll the unlucky player. .Lang's
top marksmen Paul Brown too had a couple of great chances at the end of the
half but each time just missed the target..
H-T 2-1
In a fairly uneventful 2nd half Cambuslang
continued to dominate but the weather proved their biggest opponent of the
afternoon. The blustery conditions were causing havoc with mistakes all over
the place...
Cambuslang replaced McCrae with Love on 65
minutes and then later brought on Billy Holmes for Brown. Sub Love should have
sealed the game shortly after coming on but after being put clean through he
rounded the keeper but put his shot wide of the target.
Lang held out for a well deserved 3 points
which maintained there position at the top of the table....
