CAMBUSLANG RANGERS 3-2 BELLSHILL ATHLETIC

McBookie Central District 1st Division

Saturday 10th September2016

at Somervell Park

Cambuslang Rangers 100% winning start to the season continued at the weekend when they defeated Bellshill 3-2 in the match at Somervell.

The home side made heavy weather of a game that they controlled for long spells but some sloppy defending and missed chances almost came back to haunt them.

The 3 points keeps the Lang on top of the pile, joint, with Neilston.

Cambuslang Rangers went into the match missing 4 key players, Savarese obviously still missing with his broken ankle, but also missing were Bob Davidson, Dale Simeon and Ryan MacBeth for various reasons.

This allowed some of the guys who have been warming the bench of late to come into the side and stake a claim for a regular stating slot. David Dunn and George Scott started the match.

It was a good first half for the Lang and they made a bright start taking the lead after only 7 minutes.

George Scott collected the ball just outside the box and he fired into the net although the Hill keeper should have done better with his attempted save, the ball squirming under his outstretched arm.

The first caution of the game went to Lang’s Mark Bishop on 17 minutes leaving the defender walking on egg shells for the rest of the game.

On 24 minutes Lang had a great chance to double their lead when Colin Boylan found Kilmartin with a superb pass but the Lang striker fired wide with just the keeper to beat.

As the game headed towards the interval the home side were handed a great opportunity to increase their lead when MacLeod was upended in the box resulting in a spot kick for the home side.

In the absence of regular spot kick taker, Davidson, Kilmartin stepped up and fired home.

Bellshill came out for the second half looking more hungrier and got themselves back into the game after only a minute of the restart.

They were awarded a free kick which rattled the post before Simpson followed up and slotted past Stewart in the Lang goal.

The visitors should have levelled the game on 54 minutes but somehow managed to head the effort over the bar from 4 yards out, a huge let off for the home side who were struggling to get into the second half.

Lang made a change on the hour mark and Boylan made way for  S Davidson. This resulted in Gebbie moving into the middle of the park to try and stop the Bellshill domination in their, and it worked as they restored the 2 goal advantage soon after.
