Troon 4-0 Cambuslang Rangers

Stagecoach Super 1st Division

Saturday 10th December 2005

at Portland Park

There were signs on Saturday that Cambuslang might just be putting a side together as they played some good football for 70 minutes but unfortunately the final 20 saw a massive collapse as Cambuslang got into the Christmas spirit and started giving away goals as presents to the home side. The 4-0 scoreline does not tell the whole story of this match and indeed 2 own goals and a couple of poor goals defensively was the outcome, had Cambuslang the killer touch in front of goal it could have been so much different. The missed chances cost them dear in this one.

Cambuslang are still looking for that elusive first league win of the season, and on this showing it might not be that far away.

Cambuslang fielded a couple of trialists in the game and both acquitted themselves reasonably well, enough for al least another look anyway.

Cambuslang preparations took a dent before a ball was kicked as Wade failed a late fitness test, Stoddart taking up the midfield role in his absence.

The game itself took a wee bit to get going as both teams cancelled each other out. It was a full 15 minutes before the fist shot at goal and it came from Cambuslang. Lomas got on the end of a Taylor cross and his knock down fell to Gilroy who saw his effort well saved by the Troon keeper. Lang skipper Andy Noble went unpunished after a late tackle when a yellow card would have been more deserving. The home sides first shot on McGovern's goal came on 21 minutes but the Lang keeper saved Connie's effort easily. Connie, an ex Lang player was the first into the Ref's notebook after he caught Lomas with a poor challenge. Cambuslang went close when Gilroy's effort went inches wide of the post. On 30 minutes Cambuslang were awarded a free kick 8 yards from goal after a pass back was handled by the keeper. Troon packed the box and Taylor's effort was blocked and cleared. Taylor then received a yellow card, harshly, after he clearly one the ball in the tackle but the ref judged it a foul and booked the Lang defender.

Cambuslang started the better of the 2 sides in the second half and went close through Taylor's 25 yard strike but the Troon keeper made a comfortable save.

The home side went in front on 70 minutes when McGovern failed to get anything on the cross into the box, and the ball then bounced of Church and into the net. A cruel blow for the visitors and one the didn't deserve.

Cambuslang were forced into a change when O'Neil limped off injured and he was replaced by Faulds.

3 minutes later and the game was all but over as Cambuslang conceded a second. A break up field left Cambuslang short at the back and Miller made it 2 from close range. With 5 minutes left Cambuslang conceded another this time a wicked deflection off Gray left McGovern no chance as the ball spun into the back of the net. The miserable final 20 minutes was rounded off with a 4th goal and Miller scored his second..

Things went from bad to worse for the homes side when Taylor and Campbell confronted each other off the ball both were yellow carded and since Taylor had already been booked he had to walk as the ref flashed the red card.
