Cambuslang Rangers 4-4 Dunipace
Abercorn Builders Central League 1st Division
Saturday 11th March
at Somervell Park
Cambuslang Rangers failed to hold on to the lead no fewer than 3 times in this pulsating match. Some poor keeping errors cost the home side dearly. Wardlaw in the home goal fumbled the ball twice and gifted the visitors 2 of their goals. the performance from the keeper had him talking about retiring from the game but we will wait and see if he can be talked round as everyone is entitled to a bad game now and then.
Manager Andy Cunningham brought Jim Kavannagh back into the starting line up along with John McCabe, Bernie Mulligan dropped to the bench while Andrew Noble was ruled out after he was injured in a training accident. Stuart Maxwell sat out the second last game of his suspension.
the visitors posted thier intentions as early as the fifth minute, McMurray put in a dangerous cross and Graham was only inches away from putting them ahead. Then Boyack saw his effort fly inches wide. Against the run of play it was Cambuslang who opened the scoring in 8 minutes, Skipper Billy Holmes fired in a superb strike from the edge of the penalty box volleying over the keeper into the far corner of the net, a fine strike. A couple of minutes later and it was almost 2, This time Mark Daisley had a go and his shot rattled off the underside of the bar before being cleared off the line. Mark Dunn went close with his header from Devanney cross. Cambuslang doubled their lead on 17 minutes, Billy Holmes tapped home the easiest of chances after he got on the end of Mark Daisley's flick. Wardlaw was called into action for the first time on 20 minutes and a fine block by him kept the visitors out. Gary Robertson went close on the half hour mark but his shot found the side netting. Cambuslang by this time were creating a few chances. Billy Holmes set u Daisley but as he went to control the ball it seemed to bobble as ha went to shoot and the chance was gone.
Wardlaw scrambles the ball away to keep Cambuslang in front
The visitors pulled a goal back at the start of the second half, a terrible mistake by Wardlaw who failed to hold what looked an easy cross and he dropped the ball at the feet of Stuart who made no mistake. Cambuslang soon restored their 2 goal cushion when Mark Daisley fired home from 8 yards. But the celebrations were short lived as Dunipace scored straight from the re-start. Another howler from Wardlaw allowed Graham an easy chance and he tapped into the net. Cambuslang then replaced Dunn with Levar. On the hour Cambuslang once again found the back of the net. Mark Daisley scored with a superb overhead kick giving the keeper no chance. With only half an hour left you would have thought the game was over, think again as Dunipace came storming back at the Lang. Five minutes later they grabbed a third, McMurray shot home from 10 yards. Cambuslang were then forced to make a change when Robertson limped off with a foot injury and he was replaced by Balmain. The first booking of the afternoon came on 75 minutes, Graham for the visitors for dissent. With 10 minutes remaining Dunipace got the equaliser, a long range effort from McMurray ended up in the back of the net despite the Lang keeper getting a full hand to the ball but couldn't keep it out. At the death Cambuslang had McCabe booked for deliberate hand ball. This was a disappointing result for the home side and dents their promotion push anymore slip ups like this and it could be 1st Division football for at least another season.
