Cambuslang Rangers 3-0 Saltcoats
Victoria
Stagecoach Super 1st Division
Saturday 12th February
At Somervell Park
Cambuslang
Rangers recorded their first win of 2005 courtesy of a hard fought 3-0 win over
Saltcoats Victoria at Somervell Park. The win keeps Cambuslang in touch with
the leaders.
The home side
welcomed back Feenie, Coulter and McCarroll who all missed the defeat by
Kilsyth last weekend. Skipper Billy Holmes, Graham Doak and Paul Brown were all
still missing through injury.
It was a surprise
to most that the game was given the go ahead at all after some heavy
overnight rain made the park very heavy indeed. It cut up pretty bad and the
groundsman has his work cut out to get it ready for next weeks home clash with
Hurlford.
Cambuslang
made the perfect start going in front with their first attack of the game.
McCrae and McCarroll combined to set up Paterson who's sliding shot found it's
way into the back of the net after only 3 minutes.
The heavy
underfoot conditions were making football very difficult and also the gail
force winds didn't help either. The visitors went close through Smith but his
shot on the turn could only find the side netting.
Lang keeper
Craig Rowan was called into action on 20 minutes, he saved well from Lynch.
Cambuslang almost doubled their lead when Galloway's shot was superbly turned
round the post by Kennedy in the Vics goal. Minutes later and McCrae forced the
keeper into another fine stop. The home side breather a huge sigh of relief
when Saltcoats Lyons rattled the underside of the bar and Dunlop followed up
but he couldn't keep his header down and it flew over the bar.
H-T 1-0
One minute
after the restart and Cambuslang went 2 up. A perfectly placed shot by
Burns beat the Vics keeper. Saltcoats made an immediate change replacing
Lyons with Smith.
The first
booking of the afternoon went to the home side, Paterson picked up the yellow
card for showing dissent. the visitors were beginning to lose the plot slightly
as they struggled to get back into the game. 3 bookings in quick succession
showed the frustration. Cambuslang made a double change and brought on McGregor
and Tyczinski on the hour mark, they replaced McGowan and Burns. The home side
killed off any hopes of Saltcoats getting back into this match when Alan McCrae
scored a fine individual effort. He waltzed past 3 defenders showing some nice
touches before easily beating the keeper to clinch a vital home win for the
Lang.
The victory
moved Cambuslang up to 5th spot in the table and they now await 7th placed
Hurlford who visit Somervell on Saturday.
