Cambuslang Rangers 0-1 Annbank
Stagecoach Super 1st Division
Saturday 12th November 2005
at Somervell Park
Cambuslang
Rangers disappointing run continues as they still search for that elusive first
league win. Annbank being the latest side to leaver Somervell with the points.
Saturday's 1-0 defeat has all but relegated the Lang and only a minor miracle
can save them now.
It was all
change yet again for Scott Archers troops as out went the transfer listed Burns
and Coulter and keeper McGovern had to make do with a seat on the bench. Also
missing was Frank McGowan due to work commitments. Cambuslang 3 latest signings
all played in this match and they look like decent acquisitions to the Lang
squad. McKinnon impressed in the middle of the park, while the other two Church
and Colquhoun played well too.
Cambuslang's inability
to find the back of the net is costing them dearly and the strikers need to
find their shooting boots pretty soon.
The visitors
started the better of the two sides and inside the first couple of minutes they
had a couple of good chances. After an almighty scramble in the box, McCann had
his effort blocked and then Crighton saw his header cleared off the line by
Church. Cambuslang hit back at the other end when Wade found himself in a good
position but he pulled his effort wide of the target. Annbank went close a
minute later when another Crighton effort went narrowly passed. Cambuslang's
first real effort on target came from the boot of Taylor but his free kick was
easily saved by Robertson in the Annbank goal. The Lang defender was then
caught late by Crighton but the tackle went unpunished. On the half hour mark
McKinnon delivered a cross into the box but it was just too high from Menelaws
to get on the end of it and the keeper gathered. Colquhoun was called into
action on the half hour mark and he turned Porte's effort round the post. From
the resulting corner Cambuslang cleared the danger but only for another corner
and this time the visitors made it count. Pheron delivered the ball and McCann
out-jumped Taylor to head past the Lang keeper. Cambuslang thought they had
levelled when Faulds had the ball in the net but the linesman had flagged for
offside and the goal didn't count. Just before the break and Annbank should
have doubled their lead but Crighton headed wide from 6 yards with his
free header. Lang's Church talked himself into the Ref's note book just before
the break.

Menelaws And Faulds Josstle In The
Box |
5 minutes into the 2nd half and Cambuslang had strong
penalty appeals waived away by the ref. Porter was sent tumbling in the box but
play was waived on. Lang's Taylor went close with his free kick but the keeper
saved well.
Cambuslang
picked up a 3rd yellow of the afternoon when Faulds went in late on Flannigan.
Taylor had
another effort and this time it whistled inches over the bar from Gray's cut
back. Menelaws should have done better with his effort. A fine move down the
right saw Gallagher tee up the Lang striker but he shot weakly wide of the
goal.
The visitors
picked up a booking on the hour mark when Holland was cautioned for a poor
challenge. Cambuslang replaced Porter with the more eager Gilroy on 61 minutes.

Porter Loses Out In The Air |
Lang Keeper Colquhoun Gets Close To McCann’s Header On 32mins
But Not Close Enough To Keep Out The Only Goal Of The Game |
The visitors
made a double change bringing off Porter and Holland to be replaced with McVey
and White.
Cambuslang
gave a run out to Stoddart at the expense of Wade who was having very little
impact in the game. Sub Gilroy had an effort well saved on 80 minutes.
Cambuslang replaced Gallagher with a trialist on 981 minutes but this had no
impact in the proceedings.
A frantic
finish saw Cambuslang hit the bar through Menelaws, Nobles quick free kick found
the Lang striker but he couldn't keep the header down and the ball was cleared
off the line by Whallen.
