Cambuslang Rangers 3-1 Shettleston Juniors

Stagecoach Central 2nd Division

Saturday 13th September 2007

Cambuslang Rangers got back to winning ways at the weekend when early pacesetters Shettleston visited Somervell. In what was an important match for both sides it was Cambuslang who collected a much needed morale boosting 3 points.

Town on the other hand had slipped up recently and were hoping to get back on track but it wasn't to be as Cambuslang outplayed the East End side for long spells in the game.

It was all change yet again for Cambuslang, Bruce, Brown, Kennedy, Kavanagh and Wallace were all missing. Bishop, Lynch, Bonner, Docherty and Cameron all making starts.

It was an impressive brace from Cameron that caught the eye as he made his first start and he and Ogilvey teamed up well.

Cambuslang made a bright start and after only 2 minutes almost took the lead. Cameron with the chance that was well saved by the Town keeper. The home fans didn't have to wait long for the opener. On 3 minutes Kevin Ogilvey raced clear of the Town defence after a excellent pass from Bonner, and he slotted the ball under the keeper. Town were not happy that offside wasn't given but the Lang striker appeared to time the run perfectly. The visitors were forced into an early change when one of their players got injured.

Cambuslang should have doubled their lead on 19 minutes; Ferguson with a free header only 8 yards out put the header over the bar. A minute later and Town had their best chance so far. A header from 3 yards out was superbly saved by Lang's keeper Smith who blocked the shot from close range. On the half hour mark another Lang chance went a begging. This time Ogilvey the provider but his cross was volleyed off the defender and cleared.

Cambuslang were forced to make a change. Bonner failed to recover from an earlier knock and he was replaced with Hughes who was returning after his suspension. It wasn't long before Hughes was involved in the action, barley a minute after coming on he had a chance but fired well over the bar.

Cameron Misses From The Spot

2 minutes before the interval and Lang were awarded a penalty kick. Cameron upended in the box. With Hughes being the normal spot kick taker it was a surprise when Cameron dusted himself down to take the kick himself but his effort was saved by the keeper who guessed the correct way. The Lang striker didn't let the miss get and Lang broke up field with a minute remaining of the half. Cameron latched onto Ogilvey's pass and the striker cut inside before firing into the bottom right hand corner. Lang were forced into their 2nd change through injury. This time Docherty had to leave the field with a groin problem and he was replaced with Devine.

H-T 2-2

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Cambuslang being the dominant force for once. On 51 minutes Cameron had another effort well saved. On the hour mark Cambuslang were forced to make their third and final change. Hewitt left the field with an injury and Smith took his place.

On 66 minutes Cambuslang looked to have put the game to bed when they scored a third. Cameron collected the ball out wide and he cut into the box and fired in a shot that looked as if the keeper would easily collect but the ball found its way into the net. The keeper was very slow to react.

Cambuslang were stroking the ball around very well and were creating chances that they had not done in previous matches. The visitors got a goal back on 72 minutes. A long ball caught out the Lang defence and Town's Thompson sneaked in at the back post to nod home. This sparked a mini revival from the visitors but it was short lived and Cambuslang went on to dominate possession for the remainder of the game.
