Cambuslang picked up a good 3 points
last Wednesday when Maryhill were the visitors to There were some changes to Lang’s side
an none more noticeable than new keeper JJ Christie between the posts. The
keeper making his competitive debut for Cambuslang and keeping a clean sheet
was great for the home side who had only managed this a few times during the
season. Former stopper Jon Connolly had left the club so there was also a new
captain in the shape of Mark Bishop. Bobby Thomson had recovered from the
injury that saw him carted off to hospital, well so he thought until he
warmed up and then he felt the effects and was unable to play after all. |

Dunn – Just See His Head – Scores Winner |
|
It was a bright start by both sides
and made for a pretty open game but it was Cambuslang that looked the more
threatening going forward. The pressure applied by the Lang attack paid off on
15 minutes when Dunn slid the ball home from close range after a fine cross
into the box by Kilmartin. As in previous matches though,
Cambuslang were having plenty of the ball but unable to turn that possession
into goals. McFarlane headed the ball across goal but nobody was there to
take advantage and the chance went a begging. Maryhill had their first
attempt at goal on 28 minutes but Christie fisted it away. A minute later and
Donnelly had his kick well saved by Hill’s keeper. McFarlane again put in a
great cross, this time Dunn got on the end of it but the keeper produced a
fine save. That was the wing backs final
contribution as he was carried from the field with a knee injury. McLeod
replaced him just before the break

Sweeney – Vital Block |
Cambuslang made another change at the
break, Donnelly made way for McCrae. Lang’s Hoey picked up a caution for
speaking out of turn. On 63 minutes Cambuslang could have
wrapped the points up when Kilmartin skipped away from the defender and with
only the goalie to beat his effort was weak and easily saved. McCrae had a shot blocked, it did
appear to come off the defenders arm but the ref said no and waived play on.
Lang picked up a couple of silly bookings just before the end when both
McCrae and McLeod were cautioned. So Lang kept their, slim, promotion
hopes alive with this hard fought but definitely deserved 3 points. A clean
sheet from new keeper Christie and a winning start for new club captain Mark
Bishop so all in all not a bad day at the office for Cambuslang. |
