Cambuslang Rangers kicked off their league campaign in some
style by banging in 6 goals against what was described as a pre--season
favourite to bounce back into the Super League. Port were relegated last season and
have high hopes
of bouncing back up at the first attempt but it was a bad day at the office
for the Greenock based side. It was time for the serious stuff to begin as Cambuslang missed
out on going through the group stages of the Sectional leaving Cambuslang to
concentrate on number one priority this season and that is the League. |

Port Take An Early Lead Through Donnelly
|

|
|
Things didn't all go Cambuslang's way and they conceded the
first goal of the game on 4 minutes. Some sloppy defending allowed Donnelly
in on Connelly and he made no mistake firing high into the net from close
range. Lang hit back on 12 minutes through Mark Bishop. the big defender found himself unmarked at the back post
and he bulleted his header past Graham in the Port goal for the equaliser.
Cambuslang almost went in front when Donnelly tested the keeper with a fine
free kick which was well saved. On 27 minutes Cambuslang took the lead.
Donnelly's free kick was floated into the danger and Brian Smith rose
unchallenged to nod home from 6 yards. A few minutes later and Lang increased
their lead. |

Port Keeper With Fine Save |
|
||||
|
This time Donnelly's corner wasn't dealt with by the Port
defence and this allowed Templeton to head home. Port defending was a bit
suspect and from the 3 balls into the box Lang had found the net. A minute later Cambuslang had to call on Connolly in goal after
Ports Donnelly found himself in acres of space but the keeper saved superbly.
Just before the break Lang grabbed a 4th. A long ball over the top seen Kilmartin sprint clear of the
defence but the keeper did well to block his effort but the ball fell kindly
for the Lang striker and he stroked the ball home into the empty net. |

Cambuslang continued to dominate in the second half and it
wasn't long before they made it 5. Donnelly found himself with only the
keeper to beat and coolly lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper on 48
minutes. Port to there credit continued to battle away without really
throwing in the towel. And their efforts were rewarded on 56 minutes when
they pulled a goal back. A shot from the edge of the box beat Connolly and
went in off the post. Cambuslang made a change on 65 minutes. Kilmartin was replaced
with Rice. Cambuslang almost increased their lead on 66 minutes. |

Port Pull A Goal Back |
|

Templeton was again unmarked at the back post but this time his
header rattled the woodwork before being cleared. Lang introduced Chris Queen
to the action on 70 minutes at the expense of Dunn. The home side completed the route on 71 minutes and Donnelly
fired a superb free kick which was blocked by the Port keeper but Thomson was
on hand to fire home under pressure |
