Dunipace 2-0 Cambuslang Rangers
Stagecoach Super 1st Division
Saturday 8th October
Cambuslang Rangers are still searching for that elusive first
league win of the season after they were defeated by 2 goals to nil at Dunipace
at the weekend. Manager Scott Archer swung the axe for this one with no fewer
than 6 changes to the side that lost to Maybole. Out went McGovern, Stoddart,
Menelaws and O'Neil and Timmons while Wade was suspended after his red card v
Maybole. This meant starts for a Trialist goalkeeper, a trialist defender
alongside new signing Stewart Taylor making his first start and Gilroy was
restored in attack.
Despite the changes it still wasn't enough for Cambuslang to take
any points...but it was an improvement on the previous performances the fans
have had to endure recently.
This difficult journey Cambuslang Rangers find themselves on looks
like its going to be a long hard winter ahead and now is the time for
Cambuslang Rangers players to stand up and be counted.
To the game itself, Cambuslang started the brighter of the two
sides and Coulter saw his volley land just the wrong side of the post with the
keeper a mere spectator. On 14 minutes Cambuslang had another chance to open
their account but Porter fired the free kick straight at the keeper who made a
comfortable stop. The game was a bit bogged down and most of the action took
place in the middle of the park with very few goal scoring chances on offer.
Cambuslang's best effort of the game came after 20 minutes,
Gallagher had his initial effort blocked and then saw his follow up rattle off
the junction of post and bar and then cleared. On 35 minutes it was Dunipace's
turn to hit the woodwork. Dolan fine strike came back off the bar after a
strike from 20 yards had trialist keeper rooted to the spot.
H-T 0-0
Cambuslang almost made the perfect start to the 2nd half after
Porter played Gilroy in on goal. But the Lang striker seemed to have too much
time and in the end slammed his shot inches wide when he really should have put
Cambuslang in front.
On the hour mark Cambuslang made a change, Faulds coming on for
Gilroy. a minute later and Cambuslang fell behind. a quite stunning goal that
the Lang keeper could do very little about, Dolan cut in from the right and
fired in an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. Only 5 minutes
later and it was 2. A Watson drive rattled off the Lang defender and looped
over the keeper before spinning into the net, the goal all but summed up
Cambuslang's season so far. On 75 minutes Porter tested the pace keeper with a
fine header that was touched round the post. With 14 minutes left Cambuslang
replaced Gray with Timmons. Dunipace picked up the first booking of the game
when Watson was yellow carded for a late challenge on Timmons. Cambuslang
players appealed for a penalty after Trialist appeared to be punched off the
ball in the Dunipace box, but all officials seemed to miss this much to the
annoyance of Cambuslang's travelling contingent. Cambuslang replaced the
trialist with Richie Love. In the dieing minutes Cambuslang's trialist keeper
made his first real stop of the game when he saved well from a Dolan effort.
