Cambuslang Rangers fight to avoid relegation took a dent at the
weekend after a 3-1 reverse against Port Glasgow. A disappointing show sees
Cambuslang still hanging over the exit door to the 2nd division.
Even the introduction of 2 new, but familiar, faces wasn't enough
to stop Cambuslang from defeat. Stuart Taylor and Graham Doak arrived from
Lang manager Alan Wardlaw needed the new faces as his squad was a
little bear due to recent departures and also injuries to Doyle, McGuigan and
Carson.
Cambuslang were creating most of their own problems by giving away
possession to cheaply and too often.

The game started very slowly and it was a full 20 minutes before
either team had a shot at goal. Port missing two good chances when Stuart headed
over from 8 yards and then the same player fired wide from close range.
On the half hour mark Cambuslang found themselves behind. A long
hopeful ball from defence was picked up by the Port striker and he rounded
Chappell before stroking the ball into the empty net. Chappell was called into
action a couple of minutes later this time he produced a fine save and turned
the ball round the post for a corner.
Just before the break and Cambuslang should have been further
behind. Port attacker looked well offside but was allowed to go and with only
the keeper to beat Chappell produced a fine block. Cambuslang did fall further
behind though and 1 minute before the interval another poorly defended set
piece cost them dear as poor marking allowed Port striker to head home from 8
yards.

Cambuslang made a change at half time; Stuart Taylor made way for Trialist.
Cambuslang had a rare effort at goal but Patrick fired over the bar on 49
minutes. Cambuslang introduced McMullan into the action and the Lang player was
quite impressive after coming on.
On the hour mark Cassidy was fouled on the edge of the Port
penalty area and up stepped Kondol who fired a superb shot into the top corner
which the keeper had no chance of saving, a fine finish. Cambuslang failed to
build on the momentum the goal should have provided and they should have been
level 2 minutes later. Kondol had a free header 4 yards out but he somehow put
it over with the goal at his mercy.

A mix up in the Lang defence presented Port with the killer 3rd goal.
New boy Doak and keeper Chappell left the ball to each other allowing Port
striker time to nip in and stroke the ball home. Cambuslang picked up the first
booking of the game on 75 minutes, Hughes yellow carded for a late challenge.
Cambuslang introduced McCracken for Patrick on 77 minutes and Port played out
the remainder of the game and a vital 3 points.
