Cambuslang bounced back from the dissapointing draw of last week when the y travelled to Greenock and came away with a valuable 3 points. Cambuslang's inform front men, Billy Holmes and Mark Daisley, doing the damage with 2 goals each.Greenock had been going well in the League and everyone knew this would be a tough one. Cambuslang's cause was not helped when they lost Jim Kavanangh and Staurt Gauley with injury's picked up during the game. They also had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men after substitute Andrew Noble collected his second booking of the afternoon.
The Cambuslang Manager, Andy Cunningham, dropped last weeks goalkeeper Alan Wardlaw in favour of Gordon McDougall, who's last game incedently was the 5-1 drubbing v Glencairn in the Scottish Cup Tie.
Cambuslang made their intentons known early on and had 3 corners in the first 5 minutes, Daisley went closest, heading just wide from Dunn's cross. Dunn was involved again with an excellent run to the edge of the box but the finish was a poor effort straight at the keeper. On the 20 minute mark the visitors took the lead. Gary Robertson swung over a free kick which Mark Daisley flicked on and the ball came to Billy Holmes who superbly volleyed home from 8 yards. Minutes later and Cambuslang were forced to make a change, Jim Kavanagh was replaced by Andrew Noble. The weakened defence was exposed almost immediately, Greenock drew level from a corner which the defence failed to clear and McCahill headed past the unsighted McDougall. Cambuslang responded instantly and almost went back in front, John Richardson fired in a bumper of a shot but he rattled the upright and the ball was cleared. Some poor defensive challenges allowed Dow the oppertunity to get a strike at goal but he put his effort tamely wide. Cambuslang regained the lead on 40 minutes. dunn' good run down the wing and he found Richardson who chipped the ball onto the head of the un marked Daisley who headed home. McIlvogue was the first player to be booked after a late challenge on Dunn. In fist half injury time, the home side drew level again. There was nothing McDougall could do after Dow's shot was deflected off a Lang defender and into the net to put the Half-Time score at 2-2.
Stuart Gauley appeared for the second half but was clearly struggling with an abdomin strain, and only lasted 5 minutes of it before being replaced by Ryan Lever.
Cambuslang should have regained the lead a minute into the second half, Holmes sprung the offside trap but the keeper did well to block his effort. Greenock's Dunn should have given the home side the lead. Two players were clearly offside but the referee allowed play to go on but Dow chipped wide with the goal at his mercy. Manager Andy Cunningham was spoken to by the referee for disputing the dodgy decision. On ther hour mark, Cambuslang grabbed their third. Daisley got away from 2 defenders before playing the ball to Holmes his effort looked to be covered by the keeper but he let it slip under his body and into the netfor Billy's 2nd of the afternoon. Within a minute and the game looked to be over. Mark Daisley grabbed his second goal of the game. Another defensive error causing the home side dearly. Keeper and Defender seemed to leave the ball to each other allowing Daisley the time to spin and fire home. Like last weekend Cambuslang seemed to panic when they go 2 goals up and it was Greenock doing all the pressing with Cambuslang happy to clear their lines. This back fired again when Greenock pulled a goal back. Another deflected shot giving the keeper no chance. Andrew Noble picked up hi first booking for a challenge just before Greenock scored. Greenock almost levelled but a fine stop by McDougall kept the Lang in front. The biggest miss of the day came on 75 minutes when substitute Barnes somehow fired over from 2 yards with the goal gaping. Another let off for the visitors who by this time were all over the place. With 10 minutes remaining Cambuslang made things increasingly difficult when Andrew Noble opicked up his second booking and was sent for an early bath. McDougall was called upon again when he had to tip over an effort from Dow. Cambuslang then replaced the hard working Dunn with the paced Jamie Earlie. Near the end of the game the numbers were evened up when Dow was red carded for lifting his arms in a scuffle with Lang's Gary Robertson. Cambuslang held on for a vitally important three points which sees then get stadilly closer to the team leading the 1st Division.
