Cambuslang Rangers failed to reproduce the form that saw them
collect a valuable 3 points last weekend against St Ants. Blantyre Vics were
the visitors to Somervell this time in what was being billed as a 6-pointer as
both sides struggle at the wrong end of the table.
The visitors left Somervell with the 3 points after a 2-1 victory
which leaves the
Last weeks hero, Rab Wyatt, turned villain as he was red carded
for an alleged head butt on a Vic’s player.
Credit once again to Cambuslang ground staff for getting the park
playable after 2 games in bad weather the previous weeks. Cambuslang cant blame
the surface although it cut up pretty badly in the heavy conditions and this
wasn’t suiting Cambuslang at all.
Cambuslang made only 1 change to the side that defeated St Ants,
Doyle was ruled out through injury and his jersey was filled by Robertson.
The game itself was littered with mistakes and most coming from
the home side, notably the usually reliable Jim Kavanagh was having an off day
as he gave away possession which lead to 3 good chances for the Vics to open
the scoring.

On 5 minutes it was a poor clearance from Chappell in the Lang
goal that lead to the first chance of the game. But he made amends by saving
the Vics strikers shot. 10 minutes seen Kavanagh make his first mistake, a slip
allowed Blantyre a run in on goal, but a fine saving tackle from McGuigan
prevented the opening goal of the game.
On 20 minutes Cambuslang were forced into a change when
The visitors opened the scoring on 35 minutes, and it was yet
another mistake from Kavanagh that allowed Vics in on Chappell, this time they
punished the slack play by slotting the ball into the net after rounding
Chappell.

Cambuslang came out for the second half looking the hungrier side
but were unable to take the chances that were offered to them. 1 minute into
the half and they almost levelled, Wyatt with a spectacular over head kick
which was blocked on the line before the defence cleared the danger.
Another good chance was squandered by Cambuslang on 62 minutes.
Coyle’s corner kick was met by Cassidy but he nodded inches wide of the target.
Cambuslang hopes of getting back into the game took a massive dent
when Wyatt was shown a straight red card. He and Vic’s player went head to head
and the Vics man hit the deck. The ref wasted no time and sent Wyatt for the
early bath. The Vics man received only a yellow for his part in the incident.
Cambuslang made a double change on 70 minutes Kondol and Elliott came on for
Kavanagh and Robertson.
Cambuslang hopes disappeared on 72 minutes when the visitors were
awarded a penalty kick after their striker went down after a challenge by
Divers, who was booked for his troubles. The Vic’s striker stepped up to send
Chappell the wrong way and hand his side a 2 goal cushion.
In the 90th minute Cambuslang were awarded a spot kick
of their own but Substitute Kondol rattled his effort off the post, which just
summed up Cambuslang’s afternoon. Deep into stoppage time Cambuslang grabbed a
consolation goal when Elliott was on hand to scramble the ball over the line
after a penalty box melee. Cambuslang rushed to get the game restarted but
there was no time left and the game finished with an away win. A huge blow to
Cambuslang’s chances of beating the drop but they now have 8 cup finals to
salvage their place in the 1st division.
