Sectional League Cup

Cambuslang produced their best performance in
this Sectional League cup but it still wasn't enough to over come the group
leaders East Kilbride. Both teams had to settle for a point a piece after their
1-1 draw, a result that would have suited the home side more than the Lang.
Cambuslang rung the changes yet again. Keeper McGovern kept his place in goal
while Derek Watson came into the starting line up in place of Galloway who
dropped to the bench. Gary Robertson was suspended. Holmes and Earlie made way
for Daisley and Smith.
Both team were giving nothing away in the early
part of the game as the ball flew from one end of the park to the other with
neither midfield able to get to grips with it. Some questionable decisions by
the man in the middle were beginning to annoy the Lang supporters as one by one
the 50/50 decisions were going against the visitors. Mark Daisley picked up a
yellow card after what seemed a perfectly good tackle but the referee saw
otherwise and yellow carded the Lang striker. The visitors should have taken
the lead on the half hour mark but McCrae took too long to get his shot away
and slid the ball wide of the open goal while under pressure from the East
Kilbride defence. He almost made up for that miss with a 20-yard drive that the
E.K keeper had to be alert too and he palmed the ball away at full stretch.
McCrae was causing the E.K all sorts of problems and it was no surprise when it
was he who opened the scoring. Good work by Daisley as his knock down,
fell to McCrae and he let rip from 20 yards this time the ball flew into the
top corner taking a slight deflection on its way to goal giving Moy no chance.
The visitors should have doubled that lead in the last minute of the first half
but Watson headed over from Paterson's corner.
H-T 0-1
Cambuslang started the second half brightly and
went close through Smith, his snapshot going inches wide. Then Webster saw his
goal bound effort cleared off the line. Cambuslang were laying siege to the E.K
goal but couldn't get the killer second goal. McCrae went close with his effort
that went just wide of the target. The home side picked up their first booking
of the game when Kelly was yellow carded. Daisley then struck the post with a
fine shot and the ball came to McCrae who was crowded out as Moy gathered the
ball. East Kilbride managed to get back on level terms. The Lang defence did
not cut out a low hard driven cross into the box and Conway was on hand to fire
home. Cambuslang then picked up another booking when Webster spoke out of turn.
Lang then replaced McFarlane with Galloway. E.K scorer Conway picked up a
booking for one crude challenge too many. Lang’s Watson closely followed him.
The hard working McCrae was replaced by Bell on 75 minutes. The game ended 1-1
a result that keeps Cambuslang in the hunt but only just. 2 wins in the final 2
games are needed and hope that leaders E.K slip up along the way.
