Royal Albert 2-4 Cambuslang Rangers

Cambuslang Rangers made heavy weather in Saturday's 4-2 defeat of bottom
of the table Royal Albert. But they got there in the end despite a shaky start
where they went behind after only 5 minutes. But Cambuslang rallied and a
Robbie Cameron hat trick got them back on top but never really looked
comfortable. An injury to keeper Smith also caused its own problems and with no
back up, he had to soldier on.
Up front Cambuslang were missing Kevin Ogilvie who was sitting out
the first of the 3 game suspension for his red card picked up the previous week
and Jamie Dick coming it to partner Cameron.
There were only 5 minutes on the clock and the home side took a
shock lead. A free kick on the edge of the box was fired into the net with
smith a mere spectator.
Cambuslang had a couple of chances minutes later and both fell to
Dick. The first seen him on the keeper but his attempted lob was blocked by the
Albert stopper. And his 2nd effort flew just over the bar after a drive from 20
yards.
Cambuslang dragged themselves back into the game after a fine
strike from Cameron. He picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and
unleashed a shot that the Albert keeper could only watch fly past him and into
the net. The keeper was a bit slow to react in fairness. The 1st booking of the
afternoon came on the half hour mark and it was a crude challenge on
On 35 minutes Cambuslang took the lead, some good build up play
seen Cameron latch onto Hughes through ball and he slotted under the goalie. 2
minutes later and Lang scored a 3rd. Ferguson's free kick was well saved but
the ball fell kindly for Dick as he followed up and fired in to the roof of the
net.

Cameron Hat Trick Moves Lang Up To 3rd

Smith in the Lang goal had picked up a knock in the first half and
with no substitute back up he had to carry on. Royal Albert seemed to
notice this and they were prepared to shoot on sight. This paid off on 55
minutes. Doran fired in a free kick that Smith did well just to get
to but the ball fell kindly for Miller who followed up to tap into the empty
net. Cambuslang defence posted missing at this point.
But Cambuslang restored the 2 goal cushion and Cameron grabbed his
third of the game. He lobbed the ball over the defenders head and blasted the
effort into the net. On the hour mark Cambuslang made their first change, Dick
was replaced by Kennedy in attack.
There was a little flare up on 78 minutes. Doran and Kennedy got
tangled up but Doran clearly raised his hand and pushed Kennedy but the
inconsistent referee took the easy option and booked both players. A minute
later and another poor decision from the official, this time he booked Ferguson
for a perfectly good tackle but he seen otherwise and flashed the yellow card.
This was soon followed by another Lang caution and it was Doak’s turn to fall
foul of the card happy official.
Cambuslang never really pushed on from here and were happy to run
down the clock. Another couple of changes help this and it was Brannigan and
Bishop who entered the fray at the expense of Bonner and Cameron. As the game
drew to a close the question on everyone's lips was where did the 6 minutes
stoppage time come from? Cambuslang seen out the game for a very important 3
points. A vast improvement is needed next week when 2nd placed Carluke visit
Somervell. Carluke were league leaders up until last weekend when the suffered
a shock 5-4 reverse at Wishaw.
Cambuslang have a chance to move into 2nd spot with a win on Saturday.
