Largs Thistle 1-1 Cambuslang Rangers

Stagecoach Super 1st Division

Saturday 20th August

At Barrfields

Cambuslang Rangers kicked off the new league campaign with a point at Barrfields park against Largs Thistle, but the Somervell Park side will feel they could and possible should have had all 3 points in this one.

Looking to bounce back from the nightmare showing of the Sectional Cup game v EK, manager Scott Archer made a couple of changes to that side. Keeper McGovern retained his spot, for the simple reason Lang don't have another keeper.

O'Neil McLuskey and Gilroy all dropped to the bench and into the starting line up, came McGowan, Gallagher and Stoddart.

It was a hungrier and even more organised Lang side and they looked up for this one from the off. Having said that it was a pretty uneventful match as a whole but Cambuslang defence looked a lot more solid than in recent games. Menelaws for the Lang went close on a couple of occasions his first was well saved and the other flew just over the bar.

The home side though took the lead with their first and only attempt at goal in the first half. A corner was headed back across goal and Wraith was on hand to head home from close range. Cambuslang didn't let the heads go down and levelled 10 minutes later. Burns flighted over a free kick and Stoddart was on hand to tap home.

H-T 1-1

The visitors thought they had took the lead courtesy of a Largs O'G but the ref had blown for an earlier infringement. Menelaws went close for the Lang with another fine effort but again it narrowly missed the target. Cambuslang were the team on top for the remainder of the game but the winner just would not come for them. Faulds sprung the offside trap on 65 minutes but he miss controlled at the final moment and the chance was gone. Stoddart then forced Connick in the Largs goal into a fine stop when he shot from 18 yards.
