At Southcroft
Cambuslang Rangers recorded a comfortable 2-0 scoreline over local
rivals Glencairn at Southcroft on Wednesday.
A strong gusty wind made playing conditions very difficult and
both teams struggled to cope with it.
The home side adapted quicker than the visitors and Lang keeper
had to be alert when he made a fine stop from a fierce volley from Hayes.
Cambuslang began to get to grips with the weather and opened the
scoring after 15 minutes. Brown was pulled down 25 yards out and Jamie
McCarroll curled home the free kick giving the keeper no chance. With the wind
at their backs, Lang defender Brain Martin thought he would try his luck and he
rattled the bar from 35 yards with his wind assisted effort.
H-T 0-1
Cambuslang were forced into a change at the interval when top
scorer Brown failed to re appear. He was replaced by Holmes. 10 minutes into
the second half and Cambuslang were 2 up. Alan McCrae nicked the ball off Glens
Smith and he slipped the ball to Holmes who fired home a tremendous drive from
the edge of the box.
As the challenges came in thick and fast from the home side it was
no surprise when the were eventually reduced to 10 men. Gentiles the sinner
after a rash tackle on Doak earned him a second yellow followed by the red and
an early bath for the Glens defender.
