Cambuslang
Rangers 2-3 Blantyre Vics
The curtain finally came down on Cambuslang's Sectional Cup
Campaign when Blantyre Vics visited Somervell on Saturday. The Castle Park side
had beaten Cambuslang quite comfortably only a few days previous and a much
improve performance was required if a repeat was to be avoided. Unfortunately
that didn't happen as the Vics finished runners up in the group after a fine
3-2 win.
Cambuslang opened the scoring after only 5 minutes, new signing
Carr forcing the keeper into a fine stop but Burns was on hand to crash home
the rebound. The lead was short lived as Vics equalised on 12 minutes. A clever
free kick to the near post caught the Lang sleeping and it was knocked past
Rowan. Cambuslang re took the lead 3 minutes later through Burns getting his
second of the game, Love's cross met superbly by the Lang man as he out jumped
the Vics defence and nodded into the net. Lang keeper Rowan kept the Lang in
front with a fine stop from Noble who shot from 30 yards. Minutes later it was
the Vics keeper doing the heroics as he somehow kept McCarrols effort out.
H-T 2-1
Cambuslang's poor second half performances continued as they
showed very little in the second half. On the hour mark Vice scored what turned
out to be the winner. Lang's McGregor cleared a shot off the line but the
referee adjudged the ball had went over and awarded the goal to Vics, much to
the annoyance of the home support. McCrae was Cambuslang's biggest threat
but even he couldn't find his way to goal as he shot inches wide. Rowan pulled
off another fine stop to keep the Lang in the match. In the final minute
Cambuslang looked as if they were going to get an equaliser. McCrae's header
was drifting into the top corner but Vics keeper somehow got across and tipped
it onto the bar a fine save from the Vics number 1.
