Petershill 1-0 Cambuslang Rangers

Stagecoach Super 1st Division

Monday 24th April 2006

at Ashfield Stadium

Promotion hopefuls Petershill came out on top when Cambuslang travelled there on Monday night. A single goal was enough for the home side to secure all 3 points in what was a disappointing game.

Neither team seemed to get going and it took a superb free kick by Stirling in the second half to separate the sides.

Cambuslang went into the game minus Gilroy and Anderson. Gemmell, still looking to get match fit, was once again on the bench.

Cambuslang had the first effort at goal after only 1 minute but Faulds effort was easily saved. A minute later and Cambuslang were forced into a change when McKinnon failed to recover from a knock. O'Neil taking his place on the field.

Cambuslang had a great chance to test the Peasie defence when Gallagher found himself in plenty of space but the Lang man elected to shoot when Taylor was free at the back post. Minutes later and Taylor whipped a free kick just over the bar with the Peasie keeper happy to see it go over.

Just before the break and Cambuslang had Calder in goal to thank after he pulled off a fine stop for a Dallas shot.

The second half was slightly better than the first but only just.

Cambuslang can think themselves lucky to keep 11 men on the park when Taylor appeared to catch Thomson with a very late challenge but the ref saw it as a yellow card offence, a let off  for the Lang defender.

Cambuslang conceded a silly free kick 20 yards from goal when Gray fouled Thomson who seemed to be going nowhere. Stirling stepped up a fired a rocket into the top corner and Lang keeper Calder could only stand and admire the finish.

This was the only highpoint of the whole evening as the game limped towards the final whistle. The home side did have another couple of chances to wrap up the game but Calder produced some fine stops when called upon.

The game ended on a sour note when Peasie were reduced to 10 men after a second booking for one of their players.
