Cambuslang Rangers 0-0 Carluke Rovers

Cambuslang Rangers took on 2nd placed Carluke Rovers at the
weekend but had to settle for just a point in the nil-nil encounter. It was a
game that Cambuslang had chances to win wit the Carluke keeper pulling off some
superb saves. It was a vast improvement from the last time the 2 sides met with
Cambuslang on the end of a 4-1 hiding that day. It was also interesting to note
that this was Cambuslang's first clean sheet in a league game since
Cambuslang were still without Ogilvey in attack as he is still
suspended. Keeper Smith recovered from injury and was able to keep his place.
Bishop and Kennedy returned to the starting line up at the expense of Dick and
Bonner.
The park at Cambuslang was very heavy due to the overnight
downpour and credit to the ground-staff for getting the game on and the park stood
up well to the battering of the elements.
Carluke were the first to threaten after only 9 minutes but a fine
block from Smith kept the ball out. Cambuslang hit back a minute later and a
thunderous drive from Kavanagh flew inches wide of the post. The home side had
an excellent opportunity to open the scoring after 18 minutes. Cameron latched
onto the through ball but pulled his shot just wide of the far post. The first
booking of the game came on 23 minutes when Lynch was cautioned for a trip on a
Carluke striker. On 25 minutes Cambuslang should have been awarded a penalty
kick after Docherty was clearly fouled in the box. But the referee had other
ideas and waived the player to his feet. Not for the firs time this season the
Lang denied a stone waller!!.
On 30 minutes another Lang chance went a begging this time
Docherty headed over from close range. Just before the break Cameron forced the
Carluke keeper into action and the number 1 pulled off a fine stop to deny
Cambuslang an interval lead.

The home side should have took the lead 5 minutes after the
restart.
Cambuslang missed the best chance of the afternoon on 77 minutes.
Kennedy delivered the perfect cross for Cameron and from 3 yards out the Lang
striker headed the ball into the ground and it bounced up over the bar, a miss
of the sitter variety it has to be said. Cambuslang made a change in an effort
to turn the chances into goals. Docherty was replaced with Devine. Another
glorious chance came and went 5 minutes from time. Kennedy this time forced the
keeper into another stunning save that ensured Carluke a share of the spoils.

This weekend Cambuslang are at home to Stonehouse in a league
