Cambuslang Rangers 1-0 Kirkintilloch Rob Roy
Stagecoach Super 1st Division
Saturday 25th February 2006
at Somervell Park
The Cambuslang Rangers mini revival got back on track at the weekend as Rob Roy became Cambuslang's second victim of the season. Saturday's narrow 1-0 win saw Cambuslang get back to winning ways with another 3 points in the bag. The visitors had been flying high prior to the meeting with Cambuslang having won 4 of their last five matches so Cambuslang can be pleased with Saturday's 3 point hall.
The home side were without the injured Brian Martin and his starting slot was taken by Graham Gallagher making only his 5th league start of the season. Manager Scott Archer also kept faith with young keeper Dougie Calder who has impressed since getting into the side a couple of weeks ago. This meant a seat on the bench for keeper Stevie McGovern, who in fairness was having a good spell between the sticks. Cambuslang also had to bring in Graham McCracken as Derek Gemmell was out injured with a groin strain picked up in the friendly defeat at Carluke midweek.

Anderson Crosses Into Box
Rob Roy kicked off the match with a very strong wind at their back as conditions were far from ideal.
The home side were dealt a blow as early as the 2nd minute when O'Neil went down injured under the challenge of Davis who ,rightly so, picked up the first booking of the game. Despite attempts to carry on it was clear a change would have to be made. O'Neil left the play allowing defender Stuart Taylor an early than expected entrance.
Rob Roy were the first to threaten and on 9 minutes Gourlay forced Lang keeper Calder into a fine stop from 12 yards. Cambuslang first attempt at goal came from the sub Taylor but his free kick flew harmlessly over the bar.
Cambuslang should have done better with a chance that came their way on 15 minutes. Anderson had acres of space and time but the Lang striker shot tamely into the keepers arms, the big striker really ought to have scored.
Graham Gallagher became the second player into the ref's notebook after he was late with a challenge. Cambuslang went close just before the break when McCracken fired just wide of goal.
Roy’s Davis (4) Red Carded Late On
The second half proved slightly better than the first, but only just.
The first chance of the second half fell to Cambuslang at Anderson played in Irons with a well weighted pass but the out of sorts Lang man shot wide of the goal. On the hour mark Anderson found himself on the end of yet another crude challenge when Morrison went right through him resulting in a yellow card for the Rob Roy defender. On 68 minutes Rob Roy threatened and McCandy sent over a dangerous ball that looked to be landing on the head of Chalmers but a timely intervention from Taylor saw his header clear the danger.
Cambuslang picked up another booking when Irons was booked for a poor challenge.
On 69 minutes the home side opened the scoring. It was a bit of a crazy goal but a goal none the less. Anderson and the Rob Roy keeper Mylett both went for the ball and the keeper clearly thought he was fouled but no whistle came and the ball fell to Faulds who stroked it into the net. The visitors were not happy about the award which stood as the ref ran to the halfway line to restart the game.
McCraken and Taylor Squeeze Out Rob Roy Attack
As the game continued Rob Roy tried as hard as they could to get back into the game but Cambuslang were keeping the ball well and not allowing the visitors too much possession. Watson was the 5th player booked in the game after a poor challenge on Faulds. With time running out a change for Rob Roy saw Gourlay and McPeake go off allowing Longmuir and Stevenson on in their place.
With only 5 minutes remaining any chance of Rob Roy getting an equaliser seemed to disappear when Davis was sent off for his second booking of the game. He went right through Faulds and the ref had no option but to show the second yellow then red for the early bath.
Scorer Faulds In Tussle For Ball
Cambuslang ran down the clock and replaced Faulds with Gilroy in the final seconds.
