Beatons Coaches Sectional League Cup
Saturday 25th August
At Station Park
With Cambuslang already through
from the group manager Andy Cunningham choose to rest a couple of players,
Billy Holmes & Graham Doak spent the game on the bench and Paterson and
Levar were given starts along with Watson in the heart of defence.
Cambuslang made the prefect start
when they went in front after only five minutes. Mitchell cross was headed on
by Maxwell which fell to Gauley who blasted high into the roof of the net.
Maxwell then went close himself but his shot was tipped over the bar. From the
corner Watson saw his powerful header well saved. Blantyre drew level on ten
minutes when Murdoch sidestepped a couple of weak challenges before despatching
the ball past Wardlaw. Maxwell then saw the keeper pull off another fine stop
from his shot to turn the ball round the post. Devanney rattled in a thunderous
shot that went narrowly wide with the keeper rooted to the spot but a minute
later and he got it all right, similar to his first effort only this one hit
the target and rattled the back of the net before the keeper saw it.
H-T 1-2
The homeside drew level from the
penalty spot when Watson was adjudged to have fouled. Blantyre Smith fired into
the roof of the net giving Wardlaw no chance. Cambuslang then replaced Paterson
with Simpson. Cambuslang got their noses back in front on 70 minutes. Mitchell
cross was headed goalward by Coulter but Mitchell got the final touch to knock
the ball over the line. Maxwell picked up silly booking for throwing the ball
away. In the final minute of the match Cambuslang had to rely on veteran keeper
Alan Wardlaw for keeping them in front when he pulled off a quite unbelievable
stop from point blank range, the keeper didn't know too much about it but he
kept it out anyway.
