Cambuslang Rangers 0-2 Johnstone Burgh
Abercorn Premier League
Saturday 25th May
at Somervell Park
Cambuslang Rangers have failed in there brave bid to make the New
Super League set up that will take place next season. A 2-0 home defeat at the
hands of Title chasing Johnstone Burgh was the final nail in the coffin of a
season that had promised so much for most of it. The defeat now means
Cambuslang will not take a place in the New West of Scotland Premier League but
have the consolation of a place in the West 1st division.
The facts are there for all to see, since the beginning of March
Cambuslang only managed to win 2 games from there last 10 which was to be there
downfall.
Saturday was a must win situation and hope results elsewhere went
there way but that wasn't to be.
Manager Andy Cunningham, made 1 change to the side that lost to
Maryhill in the previous match, out went Stuart Maxwell to be replaced by Billy
Holmes.
Johnstone were first to threaten and went close when Anderson
fired over from 12 yards. Cambuslang then had a couple of chances through
Balmain and Paterson who both tested the Burgh keeper. Cambuslang were first to
have a player booked when Robertson received a yellow for a late tackle on Jutla.
The homeside were given a let off by the referee when Lang defender Stewart
Maxwell clearly played the ball with his hand inside the box and what should
have been a penalty kick to the visitors was waived away by the man in the
middle who somehow missed it. Burgh had there centre half booked for over
protesting the point.
H-T 0-0
Johnstone looked the hungrier of the two sides at the start of the
second half and almost opened the scoring when Anderson fired in a shot from 18
yards but it went inches over the bar. Cambuslang Watson then picked up a
yellow that was to prove costly later in the game. Burgh were beginning to find
gaps in the Lang back line but were unable to make them count and squandered
numerous chances in front of goal. Cambuslang made a change after 50 minutes
when they replaced Daisley with Maxwell. Burgh then were awarded an indirect
free kick for what? No one seemed to know but the effort was cleared off the
line. Balmain then had another effort saved. Lang's Gauley picked up a yellow card
for protesting at some bizarre offside decisions. With 15 minutes remaining
Burgh opened the scoring through Anderson and any chance of Cambuslang getting
back into the game went when Watson was red carded after a scuffle after the
goal. Burgh killed off the Cambuslang challenge when they were awarded a
penalty on 80 minutes which was scored by Anderson.
