Cambuslang Rangers 0-0 Glasgow Perthshire Central Region 1st Division Saturday 29th August 2009 at Somervell Park |
||||
|
Turned out to be a pretty miserable weekend for Cambuslang
Rangers as they laboured to a 0-0 draw with Glasgow Perthshire. For the 2nd week in a row they failed to capitalise on their
opponents being reduced to 10 men. Shire defender Wales saw red after a shocking tackle on
Lang's Marc Ross which saw him stretchered off and away to hospital
in the first half (full extend unknown as yet). The injury looked to be ligament damage which could easily end
his season. |

This is a game which Cambuslang could and should have won rather
comfortably but missed chances cost the Somervell park side. Connolly at the other end was a virtual spectator as the traffic
all appeared to be one way but Lang, for their efforts, couldn't find a way
past the Shire Keeper. Lang made a couple of changes from last weeks starting line up.
Craig Ferguson returned from suspension, Chris Queen and Thomas
Hoey returned to the starting line up, Donnelly had to make do with a place on the bench as he wasn't
100%fit. |

There wasn't too much action to write about in this game as Lang
huffed and puffed there way towards the Shire goal but all too often there
was no end product. The first real notable bit of action came on 15 minutes
when Colin Irvine forced a superb save out of Thomson in the Shire goal, he
dived full stretch and tipped the 20 yard shot round the post. 5 minutes
later and Lang had another chance, this time Hoey fed Smith but his effort
went inches over the bar. As chances came and went Chris Queen went close
with a header on 26 minutes and you were beginning to think, Lang are going
to have one of those days where nothing is going to go in. The game burst into life, but for the wrong reasons, on 34
minutes. Shire's Wales was late and very high on Lang's Ross which
resulted in a red card for the defender and Ross had to be stretchered from
the field and whisked to hospital for some checks. It looked a nasty
injury although it didn't look like a break more a ligament problem which we
all know can be worse than a break sometimes. When the game restarted Cambuslang had brought on Donnelly for
the injured Ross. |

Lang wasted another chance on 55 minutes when Irvine shot
straight at the keeper from just inside the box when he really should have
burst the net. On 50 minutes, a rare venture forward for Shire saw them go
close but Bennet’s header failed to trouble Connelly. Shires time wasting tactics, that had been going on since they
were reduced to 10 men, were beginning to annoy both Lang players and Fans
but went unpunished by the referee. The visitors were clearly in no rush to
venture up the park and Lang were virtually camped in the oppositions half. |

On the hour mark, Irvine made way for Mathews. The sub almost
made an immediate impact when his header came back off the post but again it
was a chance wasted. Lang went close through Hoey but he pulled the final effort of
the game wide of the target. Shire's spoiling tactics worked but it was far from pretty and
they were clearly happy with the point come the final whistle |
