Cambuslang Rangers fought out there third draw in a row and will
have to start turning these into wins if they are to have any chance of promotion
this season. Following on from the 2-2 with Beith and the 1-1 with Hurlford it
was Cumbernauld this time in a 2-2 draw that the home side should have won
easily. Having taken the lead on two occasions they were unable to kill off the
spirited visitors.
Cambuslang were without Wardlaw in goal and McGovern took his spot.
Also missing was Gary McGregor who is coming back from injury and he took his
place on the bench. Derek Carmichael took his spot on the bench after he had
served a 2 game ban.
The visitors were the first to have a shot at goal and it came
from the boot of Brownlee but he pulled his effort wide of the target from a
reasonable position. Cambuslang first real attack resulted in the opening goal.
Daisley ran down the line before firing over a low hard cross which was well
dummied by Holmes and the ball found it's way to McFarlane who fired into the
bottom of the net and give Cambuslang the lead. That lead was almost doubled by
the same layer but this time his shot went narrowly over the bar. Cumbernauld
equalised a couple of minutes later. A hopeful ball into the box wasn't cleared
by the Lang defence and this allowed Glancy time to fire home from close range.
As the visitors came more and more into the game they were unlucky not to take
the lead on a couple of occasions. Scorer Glancy missed a glorious chance but
he fired wide from about 6 yards out. Then O'Rourke saw his effort deflected
inches over the bar. Cambuslang seemed to ride the storm and indeed grabbed the
lead again. This time it was Ferguson stepping up with another superb strike
from 20 yards. He cut across field and then unleashed a rocket that flew past
the Cumbernauld keeper and off the post and into the back of the net. Daisley
went close at the end of the first half when he shot just wide of goal.
H-T 2-1
Cumbernauld should have levelled at the start of the second half
but Cowie somehow fired wide from 6 yards. Then Lang had to rely on Stewart
Taylor as he cleared Brownlee's effort off the line. On the hour mark
Cambuslang made a change when they brought on McGregor for Foster. Cambuslang
should have been awarded a penalty when Taylor was clearly impeded in the box
but the referee waived play on much to the annoyance of the home support.
Cambuslang replaced Daisley with Carmichael. Cambuslang created many chances
but were unable to finish off the opposition and were punished on 82 minutes
when the visitors were awarded a controversial penalty. McGregor was ruled to
have fouled in the box when there clearly was no contact but the referee had
made his mind up and there was no changing it, McGregor was booked for arguing
the point. After the melee had died down up stepped Keddie to send McGovern the
wrong way and slot home for a share of the spoils.
